Urgent or IMPORTANT…Do You Know The Difference?
The car our eldest son drives has been in the shop since Wednesday, it’s finally repaired after 6 days of errors, oversights, and eventual correction on the repair shop side.
Now I have the particular pleasure of going to collect the car and pay the bill. The really BIG bill! After squashing my initial irritation to all the aggravation that comes with the privilege of being the owner of a vehicle, I’m reminded that every circumstance reveals to me who God is and what he wants to be for me.
His whisper to my spirit was this, “Recognize the difference between URGENT and IMPORTANT.”
I really can’t focus initially on the situation (paying $$$$ for the repair bill), I will do that eventually…it’s recognizing the difference between urgent and important in the heat of the moment.
Situations are urgent, but communication with God is more important! If we try to worship IN the urgency of a situation we may not get to the breakthrough that’s tucked into the communication with God…and the urgency steals my focus and then dictates my prayers!
Instead I MUST insist upon recognizing His MAJESTY in the circumstances and situations (through worship) and allow this, His MAJESTY, to be what dictates my prayers.
Warriors listen for the whisper of God…when circumstances and situations scream…
1 Kings 19:11-12
11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.”
I’m remembering to listen for His whisper as I focus my heart and my worship on God and who He is BEFORE I respond to the urgency that given situations try and demand.
Life happens, but as one who lives from Heaven to Earth, I happen to life…if I can tell the difference between URGENT or IMPORTANT! 🙂
I spent the 20 minute drive to the repair shop just telling God how much I love Him, that there’s no one like Him, that He’s astonishing and amazing, and that I’m just thankful that I’m His child. I refocused my heart and captured my thoughts to make them obedient to Christ and waited for the whisper…
His whisper to my heart was “I gave you My Peace, remember? Don’t let your heart skip a beat or be troubled, rest in My Peace, I’ve got you covered.” (John 14:27)
I’ve picked up the car, paid the bill and am trusting My Father for the provision that’s a part of my inheritance, as a daughter of The King. 🙂
Listening for the Whisper,
